The Preston Beer Festival gets a mention in the latest Wash Design newsletter. We're towards the end, but take your time looking through, they do nice work.
The accounts are in and the post-festival briefing is being written, so please check back for our after festival celebration and to start helping us look forward to next year's festival.
The 2010 Preston Beer Festival was opened on the the 18th of March by Fr Simon Hawksworth ~ the last priest to be ordained at St Walburge's, who pointed out that he was too young, at 17, to take part in what was the 2nd Preston Beer Festival ~ who drew the first pint and passed it over the Cllr Keith Sedgewick, the Mayor of Preston, after saying a few words of introduction.
The hall filled rapidly and an enthusiastic crowd quickly got down to the serious business of enjoying the beers, music and Lancashire hot-pot.
The entertainment for the evening was provided by Fat Goth, an Acoustic Midland duo with their diverse mix of rock and comedy covers, and The Stain who played an unmissable eclectic mix.
The Beer Festival Committee would like to thank all the hard working volunteers, sponsors and suppliers who contributed to making the first night such a success.

The winning beer ~ Bitter & Twisted
Sponsor ~ L & M Builders
The prize ~ Beer of the Year 2010 trophy and a further £15 of beer tokens.
The Sponsors Night tasting session went extremely well, with the judges working in quiet dedication to assess the sponsored beers. The panel of judges, including Lancashire Life editor Roger Borrel, Richard Lace (the Community Project Manager of Preston FM) and representatives from the local press were ably advised by fellow judge Warren McCoubrey; who has brewed award winning ale in his time.
This year’s 4-day event aims to drum up as much support as possible from our punters, who will be raising their glasses to ensure the survival of Preston’s finest building ~ St Walburge’s Church! The funds raised will be donated to St Walburge’s Church to match funding for further grants from English Heritage and help fight for the survival of St Walburge’s Church.
In February 2009, English Heritage granted funding for restoration work to begin on St Walburge’s and this financed work to six stained glass windows. With restoration work and running costs there’s a long journey ahead to restore Preston’s architectural gem but with your support we will make this happen.
Come and join us for our 17th Beer Festival. With over 60 cask ales, international bottled beers, ciders and perries, there’s something on offer for all, from the amateur ale enthusiast to the practised beer buff.
So don’t be shy in showing your support. There’s lots of ways you can still get involved, from joining us for a pint to contributing your pictures of the event. Keep up-to-date with what’s on our ale agenda for 2010 on this website and check beack after the event to see how well we did.
The Preston Beer Festival website is new for 2010. We will be adding to our content frequently, major changes will be announced through Twitter and by our e-mail newsletters. If you have anything you would like to contribute to this site please contact us at info@prestonbeerfestival.co.uk
